Nova Scotia’s Capable, Confident and Curious Early Learning Curriculum Framework.
Our practice is grounded in four interconnected learning goals:
Well-Being – Supporting children’s physical and emotional health, confidence, resilience, and sense of security.
Discovery & Invention – Encouraging curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and a love of learning through hands-on exploration and play.
Language & Communication – Honouring the many ways children express themselves through conversation, art, movement, storytelling, music, and inquiry.
Personal & Social Responsibility – Fostering empathy, belonging, respect, collaboration, and an understanding of how we contribute to our communities.

Handle with Care is a national mental health promotion program that supports the social and emotional well-being of young children. Since 2015, Laura King and Marcia Nickerson have been involved in national research and became Nova Scotia’s only Master Trainers.
Today, Handle with Care is embedded throughout Allegro’s daily practice, guiding our relationships, behaviour guidance, and family partnerships. As certified facilitators, we also offer the six-week program to Allegro families, helping build strong connections, resilience, and emotional well-being within our community.

Circle of Security
Since Marcy and Laura became COSP facilitators in 2020, Circle of Security has helped guide our relationships with children and families. We believe children thrive when they have secure, trusting relationships with caring adults who support both exploration and emotional connection.
By responding to children’s cues with empathy and understanding, we help build confidence, resilience, emotional regulation, and a strong sense of belonging.
Reggio Emilia Approach®
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia Approach®, we view children as capable, competent, and full of potential. We honour children as rights-bearing citizens who learn, grow, and express themselves through the “hundred languages” of art, play, movement, storytelling, exploration, and relationships. Through collaboration with families and community, we nurture curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning.
