At Allegro, we recognize parents and caregivers as the foremost experts on their children. We are committed to fostering strong, respectful partnerships between families and educators relationships built on mutual trust, open communication, and shared goals.
When we truly see families as experts holding deep knowledge of their child’s unique needs, strengths, and stories we engage with them differently. We listen with intention, invite collaboration, and create a learning community where each family’s culture and values are celebrated and reflected in our daily work with children.
“Our proposition is to consider a triad at the center of education—children, teachers, and families. To think of a dyad of only a teacher and a child is to create an artificial world that does not reflect reality.” ~Loris Malaguzzi
Ways Families May Participate:
Visit and Observe
- Families are welcome to spend time in the learning environment. Whether to observe, settle their child, or simply be present, this strengthens connection and belonging.
Share Experiences and Skills
- We invite families to share hobbies, traditions, occupations, talents, or stories
Participate in Projects
- Families may be invited to contribute ideas, materials, or perspectives to ongoing investigations or projects the children are engaged in.
Support Documentation
- Families may comment on or contribute to documentation, learning stories, and panels, helping deepen understanding of their child’s learning.
Contribute to the Environment
- Family photos, stories, artwork, and meaningful materials may be displayed on our cultural wall and in learning environments, helping children see their lives and cultures reflected in the space
Join our parent committee – Apple of my Eye
- Our Parent Committee provides an opportunity for families to share ideas, give feedback, and participate in shaping the life of the centre. The committee supports communication between families and the leadership team, helps plan community events and fundraisers, and offers input on program goals and family engagement initiatives.
